Pedorthic Atlas Course

The didactic and lab content is organized against ABC’s nine competency areas for pedorthists, named as ABC names them:

Didactic

80 hours online, on demand — 20 content modules + a final examination module; 358 lessons; 700+ practice and quiz questions. Supplementary lessons are available but are not counted toward the 80 hours.

Lab

45 hours in person over five days — 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. daily (9 instructional hours × 5 days = 45 hours; ABC minimum 40), with a 30-minute lunch and two 15-minute breaks each day.

Total

125 hours.

• Lessons. Each module is a sequence of lessons built from teach cards — short, focused screens of text, figures and worked examples drawn from the textbook.
• Gated checks. Practice questions inside the lessons must be answered before the next card unlocks, so a lesson cannot be skimmed to completion.
• Module quizzes. Every content module ends with a quiz; 80% is required to pass and retakes are allowed. All module quizzes must be passed before the final examination opens.
• Final examination. 165 questions, closed book, 3-hour time limit, one attempt, 80% to pass. It is taken online: the student attests before starting that they will complete it without books, notes, other people or online resources; the questions appear in a random order; each answer is saved as it is selected and the clock runs on the server; the examination is graded on the server and the student sees a score and a breakdown by ABC practice domain, not the questions or answers. Copying, pasting, printing and text selection are disabled, and screenshots or photographs are prohibited under the attestation. Identity is confirmed in person at the lab against government-issued photo identification, one integrity measure alongside the attestation and the instructor’s review of the sitting record. A second sitting is available only by instructor authorization after remediation, at least 7 days after the first; any further sitting is at the instructor’s documented discretion (Program policies §5).
• Pace. On demand — study at any time. The instructor is reachable during business hours (see Instructor communication below).

Timing rule

The lab must begin within six months of completing the didactic portion

Bring

One clean, used pair of lace-up shoes in your size (they will be modified)

• Shoe modifications: two rocker soles, an elevation for limb-length discrepancy, a flare/stabilizer, a wedge, and a closure conversion
• Foot-orthosis impressions by slipper cast, foam and 3-D scan; positive models
• Custom foot orthoses: one accommodative and one functional, from the student’s own positive models
• Prefabricated inserts: heat-molded prefabricated inserts
• Full-volume casting: plaster and synthetic spiral wrap, casting socks and bivalve technique
• Subtalar control foot orthoses (SCFO): fitting and modification
• Partial foot prosthesis: design and fabrication
• Custom-molded-shoe measurement and documentation
• SOAP documentation for the devices fitted

• Every lesson in all 20 content modules completed
• Every module quiz passed at 80% or better (retakes allowed)
• The 165-item closed-book final examination passed at 80% or better (3-hour limit; one attempt, or a second attempt authorized by the instructor after remediation)
• The 45-hour in-person lab attended in full, with all twenty lab skills assessed individually by the instructor and passed (every checklist criterion met, in the session or at a make-up session), beginning within six months of completing the didactic portion
• Paid enrollment on file

The certificate of completion states 125 hours total (80 didactic + 45-hour in-person laboratory). Completion records are retained for at least seven years.
